Roel Obemio Paints Vermeer at the Four Play Exhibit August 1, 2015

*Girl with the Pearl Earring Oil Pastel 18x24 Roel Obemio Along with three other Saturday group artists, the very promising painter Roel Obemio held an exhibit at the Art Center on Aug.1 , 2015 entitled "Four Play". Most of the works are a collaboration of the talents of Migs Villanueva,  Anna de Leon, Omi Reyes and Roel Obemio himself; and with a power cast like that in Philippine modern art, one could only expect sheer visual pleasure. Six paintings in the exhibit however [one painting not pictured in this blog] were purely the works of Roel Obemio. The volumetric figures he is known for found its way in the works of 17th century Master of Dutch Light, Johannes Vermeer; a tribute to the latter's unparalled talent. It was pure joy to see how Obemio kept the poetic timelessness of Vermeer's images of ordinary life while brushing onto the painting his own whimsical style.  The  joy these artworks brought me was simply overpowering that I soon foun
