Quezon at Quezon

Short of the requirements to merit a declaration of a hertage site, the Quezon House in New Manila was transferred and restored by the Quezon City Government to the Quezon Memorial Circle.

The present house/museum is just a replica of the original ancestral house of Rizal's family; the old house was destroyed during World War II. It was President Quirino who ordered the reconstruction of the national hero's home through the supervision of National Artist/architect Juan Nakpil and was inaugurated in 1950. The national hero Dr. Jose Rizal was christened at the church now called Saint John the Baptist Parish on   June 22, 1861 when he was only three days old.  The baptismal transcript  is displayed on the left wall near the entrance of the church, making the temple not only a sacred place for worship but also a historical piece. A Day at the Bencab Museum

I'm starting to love going to provinces by aircon bus. I must admit it was just recently that I discovered this as a better alternative to driving my own car. Although it takes a bit longer to reach one's destination, removing  the physical burden of driving and the possibility of sleeping through the trip is priceless. And so, it has become easier for me to submit to my spur of the moment whims of packing and leaving Manila for a day or two. The first week of November,  I decided it was to be Benguet just to unwind at the Bencab Museum. When asked why I wanted to check the museum, "He's a national artist, for Chrissakes! Let's get educated!" Further, for an art lover, Bencab's museum is the perfect place to savor Baguio's awesome cold climate amidst walls of  mountains and lush greenery. Art on a Plate - Anita Magsaysay Ho, Bencab, HR OCampo, Joya and More

My collection of limited edition art decor plates has grown. This all started when  someone sold to me Anita Magsaysay-Ho's "Tres Marias" at P500 during the time I see it being sold at P15,000 in Megamall. Of course, I grabbed the opportunity. The man sold it to get it away from his very active five year old. He didn't want to see it breaking and just thought of giving it to someone who could appreciate and take care of it. Thank you , Sir! My "Tres Marias" was the seed that kept me looking for more limited edition plates with the artworks of Filipino masters and National Artists. Today I have a number of them and they bring a smile to my face every single day.
